Since you were created by God, God desires to have a personal relationship with you. You are special to God. This desire is not one-sided. There are many religious systems because every human being longs for this relationship. Without it something is missing.
The good news is that there is a solution to this emptiness, a solution provided by Jesus Christ. Through Jesus Christ you can have complete joy and peace with God. More good news: This solution is not religion or repentance. It’s not about being good or going to church. It’s simply a matter of personally believing in the claims of Christ about Himself. For example Jesus said:
- “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” John 14:1 NKJV
- “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 NKJV
- “The one who believes in Me believes not in Me, but in Him who sent Me. And the one who sees Me sees Him who sent Me. I have come as a light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me would not remain in darkness.” John 12:44-46 HCSB
- “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NKJV
- “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.” John 6:47 NKJV
So according to Jesus Christ, apart from belief in Him, you do not have access to God, you are groping in the dark, you are heavily loaded, you are in turmoil, and you don’t have eternal life. WHY? The explanation lies in the nature of God versus the nature of man.
Jesus said, "No one is good except God alone." Luke 18:19 ESV; In fact, "God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all." 1 John 1:5 NKJV; God is perfectly righteous and His nature defines goodness. "The Lord is righteous in all His ways and holy in all His works. His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He." Psalm 145:17 KJV, Deuteronomy 32:4 NKJV
Now the nature of man is not like that of the righteous God of the universe. If you are honest with yourself, you know that you’ve done things that are wrong. This sense is something that the Creator laid in us. He gave us all a conscience, a moral sense organ. We are conscious of the fact that we sin, and there are no exceptions to the state of sin. Every human being is a sinner. The Bible says: "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" Romans 3:23 NKJV
Everyone falls short. If you tried to throw a rock at the North Pole, you couldn't get it there. Roger Clemens or Randy Johnson might get closer, but their throws would still fall short. This is man’s problem. "All our righteous acts are like filthy rags," Isa 64:6 NIV. No matter how hard you try, you are not righteous enough to meet God’s standards. Therefore you are alienated from God, existing in a dark fog of emptiness.
However the Creator was not content to leave man in this state, because in addition to being holy, He is also good and loving. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:16-18 NKJV
It could not be stated more clearly. Belief in Jesus Christ breaks down the wall of separation between God and the sinful person. Jesus said that whoever believes in Him has eternal life. What is eternal life? In prayer to His Father, He said: “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3 NKJV
Through faith in Jesus Christ, you can live, not merely exist. Instead of groping through darkness, you can have peace with God who created you, simply by believing in Jesus Christ. The Apostle Paul stated the content of belief in Christ: “Now I would remind you, brothers, of the gospel I preached to you, which you received, in which you stand, and by which you are being saved … For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ESV
For those of you who are without Christ without hope and without eternal life this is the best news you will ever hear. Jesus Christ had you personally in mind when he went to the cross. Jesus Christ died personally for you. Jesus Christ took your place and paid for your sin. Therefore the issue is not sin, your sin, the issue is Jesus Christ seeing he paid for your sin.
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:1 NKJV "But these are written so that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, that by believing you may have life through his name." John 20:31
Therefore, right here, right now you have the opportunity to make the most important decision that any individual can ever make, the decision to believe in Jesus Christ. The Bible exhorts you to believe in Jesus Christ. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be the recipient of eternal life.
Right here, right now in the privacy of your own soul you can make the most important decision that any individual can ever make, the decision to believe in Jesus Christ, and therefore spend eternity with Jesus Christ, or not to believe, to reject Jesus Christ is to look forward to a Christ less eternity in hell. Therefore, I exhort you the Bible exhorts you to believe in Jesus Christ. Eternity is at stake. It is your life and your future. The wise thing to do, the only thing to do is believe in Jesus Christ. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be the recipient of eternal life. Right here, right now in the privacy of your own soul you can make this momentous decision, the decision that will seal your eternal destiny, or your eternal fate.
